On the 12th and 13th of November, the project partners came together in Barcelona to take stock of the project progress achieved so far and review the next steps of implementation.
During the two-day meeting the participants shared their experiences and lessons learned from the implementation of the marine litter research expeditions carried out within 2019. In addition, the upcoming training on marine litter monitoring (May 2020) was thoroughly discussed. This training lies at the heart of the transferring activities of the project aiming to contribute to the adoption of a harmonized marine litter monitoring approach by other Mediterranean MPAs beyond the project partner MPAs.
The discussions also focused on the 10 demo projects which will feature the operationalization of selected measures to address marine litter in Mediterranean MPAs in a targeted manner.
Concerning the transferring phase of the project, a set of regional training workshops will be organized within 2020 and 2021 on how to apply a harmonized marine litter monitoring approach and how to implement selected marine litter measures in Mediterranean MPAs.
